Get off your ass and care
by Justin Seltzer
I was at dinner with my buddy Matt the other day and he asked me, after looking around the room, “Why the hell is everyone so fat?” My response was plain and simple: “They just don’t care.” This is a mindset that has spread like a plague throughout our great country. People just don’t care anymore. They don’t care about their looks, they don’t care about their government, they don’t care about the food they eat, the people they associate with, or even what they’re kids are doing. It’s as if as long as they keep being filled with fast food and allowed to compulsively buy the next best, easy diet/weight loss/ass sculpting “solution,” all is well in the world. Well, here’s a newsflash: it’s not.
This is a call to action for all who read this: get off your ass, cut the bullshit, and start caring. My father once told me that everything you do in life is a reflection of your commitment to yourself. I took this to heart, that I needed to work hard at school, work hard at work, work hard in the gym, and get rid of all the bullshit stuff that didn’t help me improve in these three areas. This is a formula I soon discovered was common to all successful people, that the only way to truly take advantage of life is to care, to narrow your focus to what you need to do to become the best you. I decided to start caring about myself, to make improving myself a priority over impressing others or following the crowd, and I am taking this opportunity to challenge you to do the same. Care about yourself, push yourself to places you’ve never imagined you’d ever go, and reap the benefits in all areas of your life. Only then can you truly feel alive.
