CrossFit Mean Streets is a gym operated by Competitors. We compete in the sport of fitness and are ready to do the unknown and the unknowable full time. We train our athletes in the gym the same way. We want our people capable of all tasks this world has to offer. This is a gym made for people who want to be good at everything and make no excuses about it.

World-Class Fitness in 100 Words:

■ Eat meat and vegetables, nuts and seeds,
some fruit, little starch and no sugar. Keep
intake to levels that will support exercise but
not body fat.

■ Practice and train major lifts: Deadlift, clean,
squat, presses, C&J, and snatch. Similarly,
master the basics of gymnastics: pull-ups,
dips, rope climb, push-ups, sit-ups, presses to
handstand, pirouettes, flips, splits, and holds.
Bike, run, swim, row, etc, hard and fast.

■ Five or six days per week mix these elements
in as many combinations and patterns
as creativity will allow. Routine is the enemy.
Keep workouts short and intense.

■ Regularly learn and play new sports.

I am a lot stronger and feel as athletic as ever. It has made me a more confident and healthier person!

How Long to prepare dish:
30 minutes to 1 hour

Ingredients needed:
1 red onion, thinly sliced
1 cup of fresh lime juice
1 celery stalk, sliced
1/4 cup fresh cilantro leaves
1 pinch ground cumin
1 pinch of salt
1 pinch of black pepper
1 fresh garlic clove, minced
1 fresh chili pepper, seeded & minced (habanero/jalapeno/green thai pepper/etc. Choose depending on how well you can tolerate spiciness)
1 lb fresh tilapia, cut into 1/2-inch pieces
1 lb fresh shrimp (peeled & de-veined), cut into 1/2-inch pieces

Optional:
4 Sweet potatoes
2 fresh avocados

Instruction and recipe:
MY FAVORITE CEVICHE RECIPE:

1. Immerse the sliced onions in warm water for 10 minutes. Then drain and set aside.
2. Place the lime juice, celery, cilantro, and cumin into a blender or food processor. Puree the mixture until smooth.
3. Pour the mixture into a large glass bowl. Then stir in the minced garlic and chili pepper. Add a pinch or two of salt and black pepper. Stir the mixture.
4. Stir in the tilapia and shrimp. Make sure to stir enough so that the liquid mixture is evenly distributed in the fresh seafood.
5. Place the glass bowl with the ceviche in the refrigerator. Allow to marinade for at least one hour. Stir the ceviche every 20 minutes or so while it marinates to ensure proper curing of the seafood.
6. After about an hour, remove the ceviche from the refrigerator. Stir in the sliced onion. Your ceviche is ready to enjoy!

Option serving suggestion:
- while the ceviche marinades, boil the sweet potatoes for about 30-45 minutes (until they are tender).
- Peel the sweet potatoes and mash them.
- put a 1-inch layer of the mashed sweet potato on your plate
- place a layer of very thinly sliced (or mashed) fresh avocado over the layer of sweet potato
- top the sweet potato and avocado with the ceviche and enjoy!
(Note: Use a cookie cutter to layer the sweet potato and avocado. Just place the cookie cutter on your plate, fill it with the sweet potato, put the avocado over it, and gently push out the layers. Then top it all off with the ceviche. It makes for nicer plating of your dish – see the picture.)

Biggest changes you have seen physically and emotionally from Crossfitting:
I’ve put on about 14 pounds and am significantly stronger than I was two months ago.

How Long to prepare dish:
2-3 hours

Ingredients needed:
6 egg whites – 100% liquid egg whites
2-3 teaspoons of cinnamon
1 small scoop of stevia
1 scoop of chocolate protein powder
a muffin tin or coffee cups
1 tsp of natural peanut butter (optional)

Instruction and recipe:
This is how I eat my egg whites pretty much every single night (I eat all six). I put 6 egg whites, a dash of unsweetened almond milk, about 2-3 teaspoons cinnamon, 1 tiny scoop of Kal Stevia and 1 scoop of chocolate protein powder. You just want to make sure you use the egg whites out of a carton so that they are pasteurized and safer to eat. Blend it for about 30 seconds then pour the mixture in 6 muffin tins and stick it in the freezer. Freeze for 2-3 hours or so. It has about the consistency of a popsicle or fruit bar when done. The cinnamon and chocolate combo sort of has a “mexican mocha” taste to it. **You can also sub the cinnamon for 1 Tbsp natural peanut butter if you haven’t had your healthy fat for the day.
